Udaipur, the city of lakes and palaces is spruced up impeccably as our childhood fairy tales portrayed. The affluence of the city are reflected in its palatial palaces with graceful architecture and wondrous décor. One has to have at least 5 days to revel in the entire city. Sometimes, Udaipur is a small part of the total Rajasthan itinerary, but however, some historical art-lovers prefer to spend some quality time in Udaipur only. The city is packed with several amusing historical places which one won’t be able to admire in a ravel of short time.

Udaipur offers both economical as well as luxurious places of stay. Exotic Udaipur can be cherished in the lap of luxury of the Lake Palace amidst Lake Pichola which is now taken over by the “Taj Hotels and Resorts”. Amongst such luxury, there exists economic stays as well like Shiv Niwas Palace and the Fateh Prakash Palace. The stay should be in any heritage hotels to get the look and feel of the cultural backdrop of the city.

Coming to the tour itinerary, one must customize it according to ones interest. Artifacts, dating back to the history and getting amazed by the antiques Udaipur curates; one must take a round the museums in and around Udaipur. Again, if you want to enjoy some truce with yourself, the charming silence of the lakes in Udaipur will ravel you with your thoughts there. Moreover, if you are an art lover definitely Udaipur is an ideal destination. Well adorned with palaces and enormously carved impeccable architecture will linger in the art lover’s senses forever.

The Ahar Museum tells the incredible history of the Maharanas of Mewar and conserves their cenotaphs. The City Palace Museum consists of “old is gold” relics. Yet, there is little exclusive collection to endeavor tourists.

The crystal gallery is another interesting destination at the Fateh Prakash Palace hotel. The entry is waived for the boarders but for outsiders it is indeed expensive. But, the pocket-pinch is worth the crystal collection of Maharaja Sajjan Singh one can explore. The Bogore-ki-Haveli is an art gallery and show-cases folk-culture artifacts.

Shilpgram, a small village in the eastern part of Udaipur is another major attraction. It gets all festive and colorful during the month of December when it hosts a cultural and crafts fair. Performers, artisans and craftsmen come from all over Rajasthan, Goa and Maharastra. It’s ideal to visit Udaipur during this time.

Now that we want to feast on the exquisite architecture and palaces in and around Udaipur, the Sajjan Garh’s Monsoon Palace is the first destiny. It used to be the summer resort of Maharaja Sajjan Singh having the infrastructure in those age-old times when rainwater was stored all year to meet the water scarcity of the desert-terrain.

Saheliyon-ki-Bari is also a captivating palace where 48 women attendants lived. The sophisticated palace is adorned with gardens and fountains. The Jagdish Temple and Udaipur Solar Observatory are addendum to your travel map.

The local Rajasthani cuisine is a savor to your taste-buds; be it in thalis or buffets. The Bhartiya Lok Kala Museum is the best place to indulge in local souvenir shopping like tribal accessories and other handicrafts. Puppet show is staged every evening in the museum.
